About Us

Magellan Interactive's PlazaLingua utilizes the immersive powers of interactive 3D Virtual Worlds and social networking to help learners acquire a foreign language.

Foreign languages are most quickly acquired through immersion, but few learners can spend enough time in a foreign country to attain proficiency. Existing language-education products lack active learning, a focus on dialog, fun content and the immersive qualities that are critical to language acquisition.

PlazaLingua is the first solution to incorporate virtual world technologies and social networking to simulate real world experiences and facilitate the process of language acquisition. PlazaLingua is a Virtual World set in real cities around the world. In our flagship city, PlazaLingua Madrid, Spanish-language learners can "meet" in Madrid, complete language learning missions and tour the city while casually interacting through voice and text chats with other learners from around the world - all in Spanish. PlazaLingua also allows the student to connect with real Spanish speaking natives, hear Spanish accents and become acquainted with the city of Madrid, its history and culture.
